Podiatry is a medical speciality that is concerned with the lower limb, this is from your lower back to your toes. Podiatrists can deal with a range of conditions, this can be related to the skin, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles.
Our aim is to keep you mobile and active, and therefore allowing you to stay healthy. You may need regular ongoing treatment (ranging between every 4 or 12 weeks) or you may need 2-3 sessions, if there is limited improvement, we will change our approach or refer to one of the other specialities.
Your podiatrist will undertake a thorough examination of your presenting complaint and general health, which will lead to the formulation of a diagnosis. We will collaborate with you to develop a treatment plan, this may consist of regular footcare such as cutting nails and/or removing hard skin.
Your podiatrist can also undertake an analysis of your walking or running. To identify if the way you move is associated with the reason of your appointment, we may record and replay how you walk and run to look for points of structural overuse/underuse that have contributed to your complaint. This may lead to use of various treatment pathways. Which may include a combination of some exercises, the use taping and discuss the use of insoles (Foot Orthoses), which can be made while you wait if time allow..
Our podiatrist is also able to carry out minor surgery under local anaesthetic and deliver steroid injections into the foot and ankle.
Your podiatrist can help with a range of conditions that can affect the lower limb. This may be as a result of an acute injury, ongoing pain that has not subsided. Or ongoing footcare that you are no longer able to manage yourself (we offer Home Visits on request)
